Cow Head
Cow Head is a beautiful community on the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. It has a population of 400-500 people.
You can get there by one of the following methods:
1.Airplane-Fly into the airport in Deer Lake and drive north on route 430 to Cow Head. Bus service and car rental agencies are located in Deer Lake.
2.Automobile-Drive east on the Trans Canada Highway to North Sydney, NS. Take the ferry across the gulf of St. Lawrence to Port aux Basque, NF. Travel north on the Trans Canada Highway to Deer Lake. Then take route 430 to Cow Head.
Cow Head is a major tourist attraction because it has one of the best and longest sandy beaches in Newfoundland. It has unique geological features, an outstanding view of the coastline of Gros Morne Park, one of the best views of the long range mountains, interesting walking trails, varied vegetation, and friendly people. Stay at the local motel, the bed and breakfast facilities or the Shallow Bay Campgrounds and experience the hospitality that is second to none in the province.
Each year Cow Head hosts a Lobster Festival featuring lively traditional entertainment. This is a joyous occasion for all ages.
It is important to note that the beautiful Shallow Bay sandy beach in Cow Head was the location chosen to shoot the commercial for the Viking Millennium Celebration.
Cow Head is the home of the Gros Morne Theatre Festival.
During your visit experience our rich Newfoundland culture by attending the drama provided by the professional cast of the Gros Morne Theatre Festival. Newfoundland stories & songs come to life in the beautiful town of Cow Head.
Daniel Payne, a native of Cow Head, started acting in plays during Gros Morne Summer Festival. We are proud to recognize his starring role as the character, Ned Andrews, in the popular CBC miniseries, Random Passage.
